Despite my fascination for and education in natural sciences I have always had a passion for economics. Both disciplines are so different, but also have interesting similarities. Whereas my understanding in the field of natural science is still the basis for my engagements as a founding angel, my academic career was in the field of economics.

Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zürich (ETH Zürich)
At ETH Zürich I was Head of the Start-up Research Group within the Chair of Technology & Innovation Management of Pof. Roman Boutellier from 2009 until 2015. The aim of the Start-up Research Group was to bundle start-up specific scientific know-how and conduct academic research in this area.
Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin)
At the Faculty of Economics and Management I was lecturer and research fellow within the Chair of Entrepreneurship & Innovation Management of Prof. Jan Kratzer from 2014 to 2018.
From 2018, I am Professor for High-tech & Lifescience Entrepreneurship also supporting the Center for Entrepreneurship. My research interest is focused on 1) strategic, operational and financial aspects of high-tech and especially lifescience start-ups, 2) technology transfer from universities and research institutions by start-ups and 3) the Founding Angels’ concept to foster the foundation of start-ups.
University of Basel
At the Faculty of Business and Economics I have been a lecturer and research fellow within the Chair of Financial Management of Prof. Pascal Gantenbein since 2016.
I started the Lifescience Venturing course in 2018, which provides an overview on the founding and building up of start-up companies, especially in the lifescience area. Within this course, the students acquire the competence necessary to found and successfully build up their own company with special focus on practice oriented aspects, such as financing and negotiation strategies, using practice examples.
Zürich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW)
I have been a member of the advisory board for the Institute of Chemistry and Biotechnology and later the Institute for Chemistry and Biotechnology since 2010.
Putra Business School
I was part of the mentoring programme for students founding a new venture at the Putra Business School which is part of the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Serdang very close to Malaysia's capital city Kuala Lumpur.
Activities at Associations
Association for Chemistry & Economics (VCW)
Ihave been a member of the German Chemical Society (GDCh) since 1990 and co-founded the Association for Chemistry & Economics (VCW), as part of the GDCh, in 2002.
Meanwhile, the VCW is well established as a discussion forum to connect the scientific and economic aspects of the chemical and related industries with over 800 members.
Association of German Biotechnology Companies (VBU)
From 2013 to 2016, I was a board member of the biotechnology section of the German Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (DECHEMA) as well as chairman of the board of the Association of German Biotechnology Companies.
China Association for Management of Technology (CAMOT)
I am co-founder and a member of the executive council of the China Association for Management of Technology (CAMOT). This organisation is committed to encouraging and supporting researchers and professionals who are engaging research in strategic management of technology and innovation in China.
